As tensions escalate between Iran and Israel, India has undertaken a massive evacuation mission—Operation Sindhu—to bring back its citizens stranded in Iran. Over the past 24 hours, a total of 827 individuals, including citizens from Nepal and Sri Lanka, were safely transported out of the conflict zone.
Evacuation Overview
On Saturday alone, 517 Indian nationals returned via flights from Iranian cities like Zahedan and Mashhad. The Government of India has confirmed that more evacuation efforts are ongoing and will extend to other South Asian nationals upon request.
Support for Neighboring Countries
Responding to diplomatic appeals from neighboring countries, Indian missions are also facilitating the evacuation of citizens from Nepal and Sri Lanka. The Ministry of External Affairs confirmed that coordination with embassies of these nations is ongoing to ensure their safe return.
Multi-Nation Coordination
Flights have been organized from conflict-affected zones in Iran to countries such as Turkmenistan, Oman, and Qatar. Some evacuees were transported through sea routes via the Taba and Jask ports.
Additional Indian missions in Cairo and Muscat have assisted with logistics and further coordination for onward travel.
India’s Global Commitment
India’s swift response under Operation Sindhu showcases its commitment to the welfare of not only its own citizens but also those of friendly neighboring countries. The MEA and embassies involved are actively monitoring the situation and prepared for further evacuations if needed.
